Unlocking Greatness:

Leveraging AI Tools Effectively in Your Practice

Jeff Jahn standing next to a large green statue

Hi, I'm
Jeff Jahn

Please consider this a more interactive experience than you may be used to. Ask questions, challenge, have fun!

Based on today's audience, I am going to focus on a few key areas

The rapidly expanding pace of technology and what it means

Applications for AI technology in your businesses

Tools to drive your team forward

AI's impact and making the most of it

a telephone on a table
a man in a suit yelling
a group of mushrooms
a person using a laptop

It took the telephone 75 years to reach 50 million users

Facebook reached 50 million users in
1 year

Pokémon Go reached 50 million users in
19 days

ChatGPT reached 100 million users in two months after launch

This makes it the fastest-growing consumer application in history

(I'm not counting Threads, its active user count is down 70%!)

It's not your imagination.
The pace of change is increasing
EXPONENTIALLY

This is because...

Technology evolves exponentially, while
Organizations evolve logarithmically.

diagram, timeline

The disparity between these two paces of change are the cause of your team's general dread and anxiety.

AI has surpassed humans at a number of tasks and the rate at which humans are being surpassed at new tasks is increasing

TIME

a view of the earth from space

Today I'm going to show you both how to take advantage of the latest tech, where it can make a real impact...

As well as show where you the current state of things means something is currently

JUST HYPE

By far, the greatest danger of Artificial Intelligence is that people conclude too early that they understand it.

First Up,
Conversational AI

I’m starting here because it’s the most hyped at the moment, and an area with a lot of novelty that sometimes gets in the way of finding actual utility.

Business Communication

AI tools such as GPT4 can dramatically improve time to response and quality of e-mails -- as long as these are seen as drafting shortcuts and not replacements for common sense and attention.

Customer Support & Chatbots

So much of the initial, low-level support required by a business can be handled via AI bots, and the ones that can't are often better handed off by AI-interfaces that have gleaned substantial conversational information from the customer or prospect.

Coming Soon: Grok

By Elon Musk / X

Grok is an AI modeled after the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, so intended to answer almost anything and, far harder, even suggest what questions to ask!

Grok is designed to answer questions with a bit of wit and has a rebellious streak, so please don’t use it if you hate humor! A unique and fundamental advantage of Grok is that it has real-time knowledge of the world via the 𝕏 platform. It will also answer spicy questions that are rejected by most other AI systems.

Some highlights from just the past 48 hours (abbreviated)

On Grok:
It's interesting that it only takes 4 mo now to train an LLM to GPT 3.5/Llama 2 from scratch. Prior to Jan this year, nobody had practically replicated GPT-3 still. It doesn't seem like the lead of GPT-4 will last too much longer.

@Suhail

On ChatGPT:
If these leaks are real, OpenAI will let you create and share your own GPT starting tomorrow.

You can give your GPT:
• A name, welcome message
• Example prompts to start the conversation
• Additional files for the GPT to reference
• Actions like web browsing, DALL-E, code interpreter

@petergyang

On Grok:
The X.AI / Grōk AI on X platform:
• Response time is at screen refresh speed.
• Persona is "spicy" and humorous.
• Knowledge based is a variation of the 886.03 GB "The Pile" and the entire X platform of Exabytes for fine tuning.
• "Live" search engine focuses on X first for context...

Now let's dive into photography

What is it useful for?

Persona Generation

We work with one of the largest dry cleaning brands in the country, and they have a few brands each with distinct color schemes, but virtually identical personas. Two years ago, that would have meant doing photo sessions with multiple sets of people, selecting colors that complement each brand and tons of post-work ensuring that these all feel uniform.

Illustrated Images

While a silly example, the image here was two seconds based on the prompt of "Create a friendly cartoon bird that says 'Hey ITA friends!' in a speech bubble"

Personal Avatars

Getting a viable photo for all members of your team can be tricky, but services exist to help create consistent images that can augment or even replace a traditional photography session.

Icons, Logos and Patterns

One of the greatest strengths of AI engines comes in illustrations, icons, logos and pattern generation.

AI Image Generation, Almost Useful

The promise of AI-based photo generation is a powerful one. Being able to replace days of photo shoots and meticulous preparation with a few minutes of prompting opens a world of possibilities. Unfortunately, issues from photo resolution to incorrect anatomy prevent widespread use today.

What Are The Best Tools?

Stable Diffusion

The OG Image Creation Engine

Stable Diffusion has the advantage of being easy to run locally and to create tuned models, which makes it the basis for a vast majority of all "avatar" engines that are available by third parties.

DALL·E 3

The first AI image generator that can write real text

"DALL·E 3 is built natively on ChatGPT, which lets you use ChatGPT as a brainstorming partner and refiner of your prompts. Just ask ChatGPT what you want to see in anything from a simple sentence to a detailed paragraph."

Midjourney

The prettiest overall images available today

Midjourney has long been the best for engaging, more refined AI photography. Recently it was updated to allow for up to 4x upscaling of images, providing the first "out of the box" solution for web and other images.

Adobe
Generative AI

Perhaps the most powerful and useful of all of the utilities today, Adobe allows you to replace entire aspects of photos inside photoshop via prompting.
